Good
news, everyone.
In
this post I'll be talking a little about a postgraduate course that
I'm interested in:
Geriatric
Dentistry, also known as Geriodontics.
Why?
Well, if you take a close look at the demographic in Chile you can
see that the population is experimenting some notorious ageing, so
doing a little specialization in geriatrics (health care for elderly
people) seems pretty logical to me.
One
of the main subjects that I want to study is the caries in
elderly people.
For
example, the elderly have an increased risk for root caries due to
gingival recession and use of medications that in groups produce
xerostomia (feeling that your mouth is dry).
Personally,
I'd like to study this course here in Chile because as far as I know
the revalidation process (if the studies are done out of the country)
to practice this profession is way too harsh here, up to a point
where the difficulty is just absurd, according to many people that
have experienced this process.
If
possible I'd choose to do a part-time course, the reason being that I
feel I understand more and it is easier to keep concentrated because
of a face-to-face interaction between the student and the teacher,
things I won't frequently experience in a distance learning course.
